Ifugao, Cordillera Region, Luzon
The Banaue Rice Terraces are often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." Carved by hand into the Cordillera mountain slopes more than 2,000 years ago, they were built by the Ifugao people using only simple tools and indigenous engineering methods.
The terraces continue to be used for rice and vegetable farming today, sustained by a centuries-old irrigation system that channels water from nearby rainforests — a living cultural landscape and testament to Ifugao resilience.
